Facial Acupuncture

The Facial Acupuncture System is a unique method utilizing tiny acupuncture needles at a very shallow depth on the face and neck. The needles are then inserted into the dermis layer, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin.

Benefits of Facial Acupuncture

  • Reduction of wrinkles, fine lines, acne, rosacea and puffiness

  • Leveling of deeper wrinkles

  • Invigorating elasticity

  • Improves and Brightens complexion

  • Reduction of inflammation in the face and dark circles under the eyes

  • Increased blood flow and lymph circulation

  • Improvement of the beginning of jowls

  • Helps minimize pores and the balance of oily and dry skin

  • Can help with Bell's Palsy and Post Stroke Paralysis

How does Facial Acupuncture Work?

During facial acupuncture, small sterile needles are inserted into the facial acupuncture points. This causes micro-traumas in the facial muscle tissue, stimulating a reaction similar to those caused in other muscles of the body during rigorous workout.

When you lift weights or work out, micro tears are formed in your muscle tissue and as your body repairs these tears, your muscles become stronger and healthier. Your body responds to micro wounds in the facial tissue by producing more collagen, increasing blood flow to the area and stimulating stem cells to migrate to the face. Essentially, facial acupuncture stimulates the body's own functions of rejuvenation.

What should I expect during the treatment?

Whether you are interested in getting facial acupuncture for wrinkles or other concerns, the treatment will be largely the same. The only variation might be in exactly where the needles are placed in your face. It is best to avoid any blood thinning medications (Such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen, etc.) or drinking alcohol before treatment, but other than that, there are no other Pre-treatment procedures necessary.

Each facial acupuncture takes approximately an hour. When you arrive you will be asked to lay down on a spa treatment bed and the needles will be lightly tapped into place on your face. Needles will be removed in a timely manner and you will be able to return to your normal activities. There is NO recovery period needed after these treatments. Dr. Lydia Kim may recommend drinking plenty of water to help flush out any toxins.

There are minimal risks involved with facial acupuncture treatments. In rare cases, some patients experience minor bruising where the needles are inserted. Facial acupuncture is NOT recommended for patients who are:

  • Taking Blood Thinners

  • Have a blood Clotting disorder

  • Pregnant

*If you receive Botox or other facial filler injections, you should consult with Dr. Kim first to make sure enough time has elapsed before receiving facial acupuncture.

How long will it take to see results?

Results vary on the patients age, current skin condition and lifestyle. Multiple sessions of facial acupuncture are required to see the greatest improvements. One study found that most people who receive facial acupuncture see visible improvements after 8 sessions.

Dr. Lydia Kim will make treatment recommendations based on your specific goals, but 8 total treatments administered once or twice a week is typical. After that, patients can schedule maintenance sessions after 8 weeks or as often as needed. Mainting a healthy diet and sticking to a well-formulated skin care routine will maximize the results of facial acupuncture.

*Facial Acupuncture treatment cost vary from regular acupuncture cost. If you would like further information, please contact us to set up a Consultation and see if this treatment is right for you.
